Obituary

GEORGE F. ANKLAM, 82, of Eau Claire, went peacefully to be with his Lord on June 9, 2002 at Sacred Heart Hospital. He was born on August 14, 1919 to Otto and Ida (Klukas) Anklam in the town of Washington. George attended school in Fall Creek and worked on farms until he entered the U.S. Army on February 6, 1942. He served with the 7th Armored Division Tank Corps in the African-American Theater. During the Battle of the Bulge he was taken as a prisoner of war.\r\nGeorge married Virginia Miller on June 22, 1946 in Eau Claire.\r\nFollowing the war he worked for National Presto Industries. In 1955 George and Virginia moved to Milwaukee where he worked at Mueller Climatrol for 11 years. Returning to Eau Claire in 1967, George worked at Presto Munitions Plant and then as security guard there through Guard Mart until retiring in 1989. For five years he owned and operated McElroy's Bar.\r\nHe was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church and VFW Post #305, and a former member of Eau Claire Moose Lodge #1408.\r\nSurvivors include his wife, Virginia; two sons, Galen (Cheryl) of Greenfield and Gary (Mary) of Eau Claire; three daughters, Carol (Jim) Dapp of Oconomowoc, Cynthia (David) Cramer of Eau Claire and Sonia (Wade) Ostrander of Omaha, NE; twelve grandchildren, Julie (Brian) Lopez, David (Amy) Kratt, Laura (Dan) Johnson, Ryan Anklam, Courtney, Amanda, Oliver and Autumn Anklam, Kelly Cramer, Jaime (Cory) Ross, Lindsay and Daniel Ostrander; six step-grandchildren Tony Braunreter, Elliott Rankin, Michael (Kathy) Dapp, Tony (Dierdre) Dapp, Michele Smith, Kathy (Steve) Jaeckels; six great grandchildren and six step-great grandchildren; nieces nephews and cousins. \r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Ervin, Gustave, Ewald and Herbert.\r\nFuneral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2002 at St. John's Lutheran Church with Pastor Howard Fehr officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Eau Claire. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Home and an hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
