George H. Corwin Jr., age 80, of Eau Claire, passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at the Clairemont Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Eau Claire. He was born on January 6, 1932, to George and Bernice (Hagendorf) Corwin in Racine, WI. He was a member of a large active family that affectionately called him "Sonny". He was a graduate of Eau Claire Senior High School with the Class of 1951. George served in the U.S. Army from 1952 through 1954, stationed in Karlsruhe, Germany. He traveled in Germany and France during his tour. Upon discharge from the Army, he worked in the aircraft industry in California before returning to Wisconsin and driving for Allied Vans and Storage in Eau Claire. George was an avid Packer fan and watcher of all things NASCAR. He was a lover and collector of country music and diecast miniature cars. George had many abilities and among them, a natural artistic talent. He enjoyed drawing and painting. He is survived by a son, Jeffery Corwin of Eau Claire; brothers, Keith (Mary) Corwin of Glenn Dale, Timothy Corwin of Eau Claire, and Kerry Corwin of Edgar; sister, Pam (Rick) Haag of Hemet, CA; and special friend, Joyce McFarland. George was preceded in death by his son, Gary Corwin; parents; sisters, Nancy Crawford, and Kathy Knutson; and a brother, Jerry Corwin. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 25, 2012, from 4 to 5 p.m. at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home WEST CHAPEL, 1405 N. Clairemont Ave., with a time of remembrance beginning at 5 p.m. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Eau Claire.
