Obituary

Born George William Day on December 24, 1923, to Glenn & Gladys (Ayres) Day in Rock Falls; he grew up in Eau Claire and graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1941. George joined the United States Marines in 1942 and after returning from active service in the South Pacific as a radioman/gunner, he found the love of his life and married Mary Louise "Weezie" Lange on March 16, 1946. George & Weezie owned and operated Day Music, Inc. from 1948 to 1978 when George changed careers to investment brokering with Blunt, Ellis & Loewe then moving to Private Ledger until his retirement in 1986. During this time George was also a Boy Scout Troop Leader, as well as a member & past president of the Eau Claire Lions' Club, acting High School Class of 1941 President since the loss of George Miller during WWII and an active member, deacon & elder of The 1st Presbyterian Church since 1947. He is most notably remembered as an avid & accomplished musician. His love affair with music originated with piano lessons starting in 1929 and it grew to playing multiple instruments with many bands of many kinds, including playing trumpet with the Eau Claire Municipal Band under Donald "Sarge" Boyd. It culminated with the unique jazz styling of The George Day Trio, which began in the early 1950's and endured well into the early 21st century playing for all types of gatherings, parties & ceremonies. George received the UWEC Jazz Studies Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008. George's leisure time included more than 50 annual week-long Canadian Fishing Extravaganzas; many years spent learning the game of golf; and, of course, untold hours of musical performance. He continued to play almost constantly until his departure. George is survived by his wife of 66 years, Weezie; his brother Charles of River Falls, WI; 3 children & 7 grandchildren: Kirk & Jackie Day (Kevin & Brian) of Altoona, WI; Timothy & Jean Day (Anna) of Jackson Hole, WY; Jess & Nancy Day (Aaron, Rachel, Bethany & Brittany) of Cottage Grove, MN; 6 great-grandsons & 2 great-granddaughters; 2 nephews & 5 nieces.
