George David "Dave" Fletty, age 72 of Eau Claire, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, May 28, 2014. He was born to Palmer and Magdalene (Ausman) on August 31, 1941, in Eau Claire, WI. He graduated from Eau Claire Memorial High School in 1961. He married the love of his life, Carol, on November 13, 1965. Dave proudly served in the United States Navy on the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga following graduation, and then worked at Uniroyal for twenty-five years. After retirement, Dave loved gardening and travelling with Carol, and doting on his grandchildren, Sean, Josh, Carolyn and Cate. After Carol was taken from him in 2002, Dave became a proficient woodworker despite battling Parkinson's Disease. Dave also loved following the Packers, Brewers and Badger sports teams, and was an avid birdwatcher. George is survived by his son, Joe (Dawn) Fletty; daughter, Susan (Dean Peterson) Fletty; grandchildren, Sean, Josh, Carolyn and Catherine; siblings, Mary (Rich) Lindner, Pete Fletty, LaVonne Naser, Pat (Jim) MacLaughlin, Paul (Charlie) Fletty, Jerry (Earna) Fletty, and Cathy (Mitch) Olson; brothers-in-law, Don (Sharon) Severson and Wayne Severson; sister-in-law, Tootie Fletty; along with other relatives and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carol; brothers, Tom, Joe, John, Don and LaVerne "Buster" Fletty; and sisters-in-law, Mary Lee Fletty and Nita Severson. A Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10, at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Avenue, Eau Claire, with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Pastor Michael Wollman will be officiating. Military Honors will be conducted immediately following the service at the chapel by the Eau Claire VFW Post #305. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Eau Claire at a later date. The family would like to thank the Mayo Clinic Home Health and Hospice staff, especially Frances Hebert, for all her special care given to George. A very special thanks to Lynn Gunderson, his niece, for her caregiving and companionship over the last five years. She always brightened the start to his day, no matter how difficult.
