Obituary

George J. Hanson, age 78, of Eau Claire, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2019, at his home, surrounded by love. George was born March 19, 1941, son of Richard and Ruth (Warvi) Hanson, in Waukegan, Illinois. He moved with his family to Kenosha, Wisconsin where he grew up. He attended elementary school at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School and graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School. Following high school, he studied Theology and Latin at St. Francis De La Salle Monastery for five years in Milwaukee, WI. Then, he continued his education in business and physical education at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. He was united in marriage on May 6, 1989, to the love of his life, Patricia Clarke, in Worthington, MN. Together, they celebrated 30 years of joyful marriage. His greatest work accomplishments came when he was in Human Resources. George spent thirty-three years devoted to helping workers succeed both financially and professionally. He modeled generosity, compassion and a genuine zest for life. His sense of humor and quick wit were appreciated by all who knew him. He was the "baby whisperer" meaning that he could quiet the fussiest babies by singing quietly or whispering to them. Singing, playing cards, reading and keeping a pristine yard were his most enjoyable hobbies. George's community involvements included the Boy Scouts of America, Jaycee's, the city councils of Milwaukee, WI and Pelican Rapids, MN, and Wisconsin's Division of Highway Safety. His devotion to his faith and his family were some of his most driving forces. Even as his health started failing, watching Mass and sharing his faith with Pat were of the utmost importance to him. George is survived by his wife, Pat of Eau Claire; daughters, Lisa Hanson of Kenosha, WI, Amy (Rich) Wierzbicki of Kenosha, WI, and Terri Meyer of Milwaukee, WI; sisters, June (Frank) Suriano of Scottsdale, AZ, Kathleen (Sandy) Kuhl of Kenosha, WI, and Barbara Hanson of Bristol, WI; brothers, Tom (Lori) Hanson of West Lake, OH, Jim (Toni) Hanson of Kenosha, WI; two granddaughters, Lauren Hanson and Abby Wierzbicki; as well as two grandsons, Logan Hanson and Noah Wierzbicki all of Kenosha, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Ruth Hanson; sister, Pat Wallis; brother, Don Hanson; and two nieces, Kaitlyn Hanson and Amanda Hanson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2019, at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 2502 11th St. Eau Claire, with Father Frank Corradi officiating.
