George C. Haug, age 90, of 615 Folsom Street, Eau Claire died Wednesday, December 4, 2002. He was born in Eau Claire on October 14, 1912, the son of Sever and Gertrude (Dragseth) Haug. He grew and received his education in Eau Claire. George married Arvilla "Shim" Schimmel at St. John's Lutheran Church in Eau Claire on July 9, 1949.\r\nHe was a veteran of World War II, receiving an honorable discharge on April 19, 1946, as a Surgical Technician. He was a 56-year member of the American Legion Post 53. George was employed at Uniroyal for 40 years, retiring from the Inspection Department in 1975, and was a long-time member of the Rubber Workers Retirement Club. He later worked for Sam's Auto Supply. He was also long-time member of First Lutheran Church.\r\nHe was an avid golfer and bowler. He also enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling with his family. George was a devoted grandpa; he took great pride and enjoyment in time spent with his grandson, his influence will be timeless.\r\nGeorge will be remembered for his kind and gentle ways; he will be sadly missed by his family.\r\nSurvivors include his daughter, Nancy Soley of Eau Claire; grandson, Brian Soley (fiancée Sara Makovec) of Hudson; two sisters-in-law, Eunice Haug of Eau Claire, and Ramona Mowry of Bloomer; and several nieces and nephews.\r\nGeorge was preceded in death by his wife, Arvilla, on February 4, 1997; his parents; and three brothers, Leonard, Sigvald and John.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, December 9, 2002, at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Duane C. Pederson officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. (Today) Sunday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Monday at the church.\r\nFamily requests memorials be directed to First Lutheran Church.
