George H. Losby, 72, of Eau Claire, died Thursday, February 26, 2009 at Luther Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer with his wife and family at his side. George was born in Eau Claire on October 4, 1936, a son of George "Alden" and Myrtle (Hanshus) Losby. \r\nHe graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School with the class of 1954. \r\nHe entered the U.S. Army in 1955 where he served as an instructor in the guided missile school until his honorable discharge in 1958.\r\nHe married Sharon L. Kelly in 1957 in Eau Claire, they later divorced. George married Mary Kay "Chris" (Christopherson) Braun on October 19, 1985, in Eau Claire \r\nGeorge graduated form UW-Eau Claire in 1961 with a BS degree in Physical Science. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1964. George then joined his father and brother in their Eau Claire law practice. In later years he practiced as a sole practitioner.\r\nHe belonged to many organizations and served as president of several of them including the Eau Claire City Council and Eau Claire Rod and Gun Club. He was currently serving on the Board of Supervisors for the Town of Washington.\r\nGeorge enjoyed and loved the outdoors. In particular, he spent many happy hours hunting, fishing, and trapshooting. He especially looked forward to entertaining friends during boating and fishing excursions on Lake Superior and Michigan as well as the companionship of friends on the many trips to the Farmer's Friend Hunting and Fishing Camp on the East Fork of the Chippewa River ("The Shack") over the years. George thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie, intellectual discussion, and friendships nurtured during these trips. George will be remembered for his keen wit, animated and thoughtful discussions, and his story telling and limericks which he loved to share with friends and family at gatherings.\r\nGeorge is survived by his wife, Chris; two sons, Robert (Cheri Uelmen) Losby of Eau Claire and Charles Losby of Edina, MN; daughter Laura (Troy) Sassen of Chandler, AZ ; step-son, Kevin (Laurie) Braun of Prairie du Sac; step-daughter, Kari Loquercio of Alsip, IL; four grandchildren, Brandon Matthews, Shauna Braun, Nickolas and Lyla Loquercio; great grandson, Benjamin Matthews; sister, Josephine Hanson of Verona; his brother, Donald (Therese Rippley) Losby of Eau Claire; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Fred and Lynn Thornton of Sikeston, MO; many nieces and nephews; and good friends, Tom Hanson, Gene O'Neil, Richard Kelley, and John Hibbard. \r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; his sister and brother-in-law, Marion and Rupert Johnson; brother-in-law, Kenneth Hanson; and his many great Labrador Retrievers.\r\nHe will be dearly missed by his family and friends.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Scott Miller officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.
