Obituary

George J. Pfielsticker, 82, of Eau Claire died Thursday, September 20, 2007, at Woodland Cottage in Eau Claire. He was born in Wabasha, MN on December 7, 1924, the son of George J. and Cora (Barton) Pfielsticker.\r\nHe enlisted in the U.S. Army-Air force on March 10, 1945. George served in the Pacific Theatre, and was honorably discharged on June 8, 1946. \r\nGeorge married Dorothy I. Ver Hagen on June 3, 1947 in Eau Claire.\r\nHe was a member of VFW Post #305 where he had served as Post Commander, Post Adjutant, and on the Firing Squad. George served as VFW District Commander in 1976-77 and as State Commander 1987-88. George also received numerous appointments to national VFW Committees. He was also a member of American Legion Post #53, Disabled American Veterans, and Fraternal Order of the Eagles Chippewa Valley Aerie #2213. \r\nHe worked 34 years at Amours Meats, where he served as union secretary and later President.\r\nGeorge enjoyed the outdoors, particularly taking care of his beautiful vegetable garden. He enjoyed spending his retirement years with his grandchildren.\r\nGeorge is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Rosanne (Mark) Chaput of Eau Claire; son, Tom (Donna) Pfielsticker of Elizabeth, CO; four grandchildren, Amanda (Ryan) Peters, TJ Pfielsticker, Alex and Zack Chaput; a great-granddaughter, Zoe Peters; two sisters, Dorothy Czapiewski, Maxine Lokken; two brothers-in-law, Ray (Carmen) Ver Hagen, and Jerry (Mary Lou) Ver Hagen; two sisters-in-law, Anna Le Barron, Irene (Gene) Wittmann; and many special nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert; four sisters, Edith, Carol, Erma, and Jackie.\r\nMass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 24, 2007, at St. Olaf Catholic Church with Father Brian Konopa celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in the Town of Washington where VFW Post #305 will conduct military honors. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to Mass Monday at the church. There will be a 7 p.m. public Veterans Service Sunday at the funeral home officiated by VFW Post #305. \r\nThe family wishes to thank the staff at Woodland Cottage and Northwest Homecare Hospice for all of the tender care shown to George the past four months.\r\n
