George N. Smith, 83, of 1622 Cameron St., died Thursday, June 12, 1997 at Sacred Heart Hospital. He was born February 19, 1914 in Czar, West Virginia to Alvin and Mary (Loudin) Smith. He grew up in the Czar area and graduated from Business College in 1937. On August 9, 1938, George married Margaret M. Teuscher in Clarksburg,West Virginia . They lived in St. Louis Park,MN, where he worked as a machinist for Tape Manufacturing. Following his retirement in 1976, George and Margaret moved to Eau Claire where they became members of Truax Congregational United Church of Christ. He greatly enjoyed his retirement years for the increased opportunity to enjoy the outdoors with fishing, hunting and golfing.\r\nSurvivors include his wife of 59 years, Margaret; two sons, Larry (Lillian) of Eau Claire and Dwight (Bonnie) of Chippewa Falls; three grandchildren, Dawna (Dan) Drum of New Auburn, Tresia (Ron) Hartl of Eau Claire and David Smith, Airman USAF stationed at Mt. Home, ID; a great-grandson, Jordan Hartl of Eau Claire; a sister, Hilda Gobeli of Trenton,NJ; a sister-in-law, Alma Hill of St. Louis Park,MN; several nieces and nephews.\r\nGeorge was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Rodney and Richard; three sisters, Hazel Van Gilder, Delphia Russel and Mary Dell Leutch.\r\nFuneral Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Truax Congregational United Church of Christ with Pastor John F. Wreford officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
