Obituary

George A. Srsen, 80, of Eau Claire, died peacefully at his home on Friday, April 15, 2011. \r\nGeorge was born in Owatonna, Minnesota on May 25, 1930, a son of Louis and Rosalia (Kubat) Srsen.\r\nGeorge married Dorothy Ruth Holzapfel on May 29, 1951, in Mankato, MN.\r\nGeorge served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict from 1951 to 1953. He worked at various wholesale bakeries for 42 years as an accountant before retiring from Holsum Bakery in Eau Claire in 1997. George was also a long-time member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. George will always be remembered fondly for his ability to make you laugh with his jokes. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends. \r\nGeorge is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Eau Claire; daughter, Georgene (Walter) Srsen-Orlandoni of Nekoosa, WI; son Wayne (Gina) Srsen of Chaska, MN; a grandson Jake Thomas Srsen of Chaska, MN; brothers-in-law, Richard (Janice) Holzapfel of Kyle, TX and Darwin Yungerberg of Mankato, MN; sisters-in-law, Lois (Howard) Hoffmann of Lafayette, MN and Vera Hozapfel of Mankato, MN; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Ralph Srsen; a brother-in-law Donald Hozapfel; and a sister-in-law Phyllis Yungerberg. \r\nFuneral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 601 Fall St. in Eau Claire with Pastor Carlton Kangas officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Luther Hospital Cancer Center and/or Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. \r\nOur family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and staff at Luther Hospital and to the staff at Luther Midelfort-Oakridge in Osseo, WI for all of their kindness and generosity while taking care of George.
