Gerald J. "Gerry" Johnson, 68, of Eau Claire, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Friday, January 24, 2014. He was born in Eau Claire on September 22, 1945, to Joseph and Lillian (Kolstad) Johnson. Gerry worked at Uniroyal for 27 ½ years until they closed. After that he went to technical college for truck driving. He was a very devoted husband and father who took great pride in his family. He enjoyed gardening and watching the Green Bay Packers, and had a love for malt shop oldies and country music, especially George Jones and Johnny Cash. Gerry is survived by his wife of 35 years, Jeanne; children, Paula Johnson, Rickey (Samantha) Contardi, Skip Contardi, Jeremy (Grace) Contardi, and Patti (Cory) Hazelton; several grandchildren; sister, Sonja (Tom) Backstrom; and many other friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Vernon Johnson; and sister, Johan Halvorson. Gerry's family would like to thank all their wonderful friends and family members for their support during this difficult time; and a special thank you to Mayo Clinic Home Health and Hospice for their care, especially Frances for being their "angel girl." Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, January 27, 2014, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave. Funeral Service will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home with Pastor Rolf Nestingen officiating. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Interment will be at Rest Haven Gardens in the Town of Washington.
