Obituary

Gerald "Jerry" W. Voss, 81, of 610 Gray Street, died Sunday, June 8, 2003 at Luther Hospital.\r\nHe was born in Eau Claire on December 21, 1921 the son of George and Anna (Pederson) Voss. Jerry grew up on Eau Claire's north side and graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army with the 129th Signal Radio Intelligence Company in France and Germany during WWII until his honorable discharge in September 1945.\r\nJerry was a 50 year member of Grace Lutheran Church and a life member of VFW Post #305.\r\nJerry married Beverly E. Johnson in Eau Claire on June 4, 1950. He worked for the Postal Service as a Letter Carrier and Examination Specialist for 35 years until his retirement in 1980. Jerry could be found most Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings golfing at Lake Hallie Golf course. He enjoyed collecting stamps and old postcards. Later in life he spent Sunday afternoons working at Carson Park with the Chippewa Valley Railroad. He especially enjoyed giving train rides to his grandsons. Jerry loved flowering plants and shrubs and no matter where he lived, always had flowers growing somewhere. Every Christmas he gave his loved ones an amaryllis. He loved Sunday afternoon drives and knew the location of every root beer stand and ice cream parlor in the Eau Claire area. Those weekend drives will be sadly missed. In recent years he did not own a pet, but greeted and played with every dog or cat that passed his way.\r\nSurvivors include his children, David (Sue Bates) Voss and Anita (Dale) Reid and their mother, Beverly Voss; two grandchildren, Andrew and Peter Reid, all of Eau Claire; two sisters, Virginia Golisch of Eau Claire and Frances Anglim of Portland, OR; and family friend, Elaine Loken of Eau Claire.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Winifred Bruden; an infant brother; and two brother-in-laws, Phil Bruden, Amos Golisch and Ed Anglim.\r\nMemorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2003 at Grace Lutheran Church Chapel with Pastor Rolf A. Nestingen officiating. Burial will be in Lutheran Church Cemetery where VFW Post #305 will conduct military rites. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Thursday at church.\r\nFamily requests memorials be directed to Grace Lutheran Church.
