Gerald "Red" Wirth, 66, of Eau Claire passed away at Sacred Heart Hospital Thursday, July 25, 2002, after cancer returned, spreading throughout his earthly body at a rapid pace. He endured every test and medicine to check his fever and intense pain before taking the Good Lord's hand, leading him to his heavenly home. \r\nEveryone who knew "Red" will remember his warm smile, his love for his family and the Lord, his Packer pride, his pickup, and the cottage.\r\nHe is survived by Frances (Schimml) his wife of 43 years; a son, Jeff (Cheryl) Wirth; two daughters, Judy (Larry) Hacker and Jean (Keith) Miller; six grandchildren, Tiffany and Jared Wirth, Cassie and Jacob Hacker, Alyssa and Kristen Miller; a brother, Dale (Marilyn) Wirth; a sister, Marilyn (Herbert) Morrell, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and faithful friends.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his mother, Marion; his father Paul; and a brother, Ralph.\r\nA Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2002 at St. James the Greater Catholic Church with Father John A. Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in the town of Washington where American Legion Post #53 will conduct Military Honor rites. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Monday at the church. There will be a public prayer vigil at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
