Geraldine T. Bischel, age 86 of Eau Claire, died peacefully, with her family by her side, at her home in Altoona, WI, on Monday, September 29, 2014. She was born to Lawrence and Anne (O'Donnell) Schweitzer, in Eau Claire on June 19, 1928. Geraldine married Jim Bischel on June 18, 1949, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eau Claire. She and Jim were charter members of St. Olaf Catholic Church where she sang in the church choir. Geraldine enjoyed cross stitching and loved golfing, fishing, traveling, camping and playing cards. She lived a very healthy life, walking every day. Geraldine volunteered at Sacred Heart Hospital and the Eau Claire Food Pantry for many years. She was an avid Wisconsin Badgers Football fan and Milwaukee Brewers fan. Geraldine was a very caring and giving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother that will be missed by many. Geraldine is survived by her six children, Tom (Ginger) Bischel of Port Hadlock, WA, Jean Mehlsack of Long Beach, CA, Mike (Cindy) Bischel of Littleton, CO, Sue (Dan) Carlson of Colfax, WI, Mary Jo (Jim) Dopkins of Hudson, WI, and Pat Bischel of Eau Claire, WI; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Marjorie (Carl) Peterson of West Allis, WI; along with her nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Gerald; and son-in-law, Gary Mehlsack. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 3, 2014, at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 3220 Monroe Street, Eau Claire, with a visitation one hour prior to the Mass at church. Father Felix Tigoy will be officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Eau Claire at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Joseph's Home Health and Hospice, 2661 County Highway I, Chippewa Falls WI, 54729.
