Obituary

Geraldine D. "Gerry" Henning, 90, of Eau Claire, was embraced in God's loving arms on Friday, March 2, 2012, at Sacred Heart Hospital with her daughters by her side. She was born on April 15, 1921, to Adolph and Dorothea (Krause) Mai, the youngest of eight children. She graduated from Eau Claire High School with the Class of 1938. After school, she went to work tying fishing flies until she married her first husband William Wrage at St. John's Lutheran Church on November 20, 1941. When WWII broke out, Gerry went to work at Presto on the ammunition line making shells. After working at Presto, she became a homemaker and raised two daughters, Janet and Mary. When her husband Bill died unexpectedly in 1968, she returned to school to study accounting and then went back to Presto as an accounts payable clerk for 8 years, retiring in 1976 when she married her second husband, William Henning. Gerry was a very active and lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, participating in Sunday School, Choir, Hunger Concerns, W/ELCA, and Altar Guild. She also gave back to the community by packaging food for St. Francis Food Bank, and delivering Meals-on-Wheels for many years. Gerry thoroughly enjoyed hearing about her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, playing cards and shopping. Gerry is survived by her two daughters, Janet (Darrel) Bauman of Elk Mound, and Mary (Dan) Bowman of Eau Claire; four grandchildren, Douglas Bauman, Bradley Bauman, Katie Bowman and John (Reena) Bowman; four great-grandchildren; and also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her two Bill's; and seven siblings, Helen, Tillie, Al, Ernie, Irv, Wally, and Herb. Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1804 Highland Ave., in Eau Claire with Pastor Christine Emerson officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7p.m. on Monday, March 5, 2012, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home WEST CHAPEL, 1405 N. Clairemont Ave., and again one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, at the church. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff on 6th floor Sacred Heart Hospital for their thoughtful and tender care, especially Dr. Kristine Reesman. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials be sent to St. John's Lutheran Church or a charity of choice.
