Gladys B. Bjerkness, age 93, of Eau Claire, passed away at Dove Healthcare South, in Eau Claire on July 15, 2012. Gladys was born on June 23, 1919 in Minneapolis to Olai and Jennie (Rudd) Roseland. She grew up in the Sand Creek area graduating from Colfax High School. Gladys later married Olaf Bjerkness on June 23, 1942 in Colfax. They farmed together until Olaf died in 1966. She then moved to Altoona after selling the farm. She worked as a waitress at Howard Johnson's and Austin's White House for many years. In Gladys' free time, she enjoyed baking, sewing, gardening, the Green Bay Packers, bingo, Thursday senior bowling and feeding the birds. Most of all, Gladys always put her family first and loved spending time with them along with many of her friends. Gladys is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Duane) Christians, and Natalie (DeLaine) Gotlibson; grandchildren, Kim (Randy) Christians, Tammy Stoffel, Cindy (Dave) Welk, and Sally Gotlibson; great-grandchildren, Ashley (Ben) Lind, Katelynn Christians, Tyler Vinton, and "Little" Ben Stoffel; step great-grandchildren, Jai (Jocelyn) Welk, and Shantel Welk; step great-great-grandchild, Jolena Gustum; sisters-in-law, Helen Busch and Audrey Roseland; brother-in-law, Ruben Bjerkness, along with many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Olaf in 1966; parents, Olai and Jennie Roseland; brother, Earl Roseland; father and mother-in-law, Rudolph (Helga) Bjerkness; four sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, from 4 to 7 PM at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Avenue, Eau Claire. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM, on Thursday, July 19, 2012, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 1310 Main St., Eau Claire with Pastor Gary F. Sahs officiating. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at church. All are welcome to the interment for Gladys at the Holden Lutheran Church Cemetery, Colfax WI, at 2:00 PM. The family would like to thank Oakwood Hills Retirement Center, Oakwood Marshfield Clinic, Dr. Joles and staff, Sacred Heart Hospital, Dove Healthcare South, and St. Joseph's Hospice for all their loving care for Gladys.
