Gladys A. Myers, age 94, a rare and beautiful woman, died unexpectedly and peacefully at her home on Monday, May 11, 2015. Gladys Anna Mae Myers, was born in Eau Claire on May 7, 1921, to Albert and Sadie (Hennessey) Johnson. Gladys graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1938. She worked with friends tying flies for the Eau Claire Fly Company and Odean Hanson. She went to Washington D.C. to work for the FBI, in the fingerprint division, before moving back to Eau Claire where she was employed by the telephone company. In 1946, she married Henry J. Myers, Jr. and together they raised four children on the same block they both grew up on. She returned to work with the telephone company in 1962, retiring in 1982. The two traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. She lived a very long and productive life. Mom was an active, stylish woman who loved her family and friends unconditionally. She was everyone's mother, grandmother and a true friend to everyone blessed to know her. She was the quiet, steadfast center of our family; always available with her warmth, wisdom, kindness and sense of humor. She was always up for a good political discussion, game of cards or Bannagrams. Gladys was a member of Wisconsin Telephone Pioneers, CWA (Communication Workers of America), her card club and a charter member of St. James the Greater Catholic Church. Gladys is survived by three children, Barb (Ted) Westerberg, Mary (Bob) Weingart and Darrell (Ruthie) all from Eau Claire; grandchildren, Eric Westerberg, Chad (Tracy) Westerberg, Peter (Hannah) Westerberg, David (Katie) Myers, Alicia (Erik) Ruska, Bryan (Tara) Myers and Ben (Marissa) Myers; twelve-great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; nieces and nephews; neighbors and friends, Gladys Webb, and the Larson, Johnson, Gregory, Eckwright families. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Sadie (Henessey) Johnson; husband, Henry (1991); son, David, Sr.(2005); sister, Alice and Ben Eckwright; brother, Ray and Hazel Johnnson; in-laws, Marcella and James Gregory, Beverly and Bert Johnson, Jean and Jim Larson, Tom and Sarah Myers; and many life-long friends.
