Glendora Marion Surguy, age 95, of Eau Claire, died on Sunday, August 14, 2011, at Dove Healthcare West in Eau Claire, from complications relating to acute myeloid leukemia (AML).Glendora was born on February 7, 1916, in St. Paul MN, to James and Laura (Saltness) Osborne. Her birth was premature and because of her size, she was called Dolly, a name that stayed with her all of her life.Dolly spent her early childhood in Menomonie, WI, where she later met and married Ernest Surguy, her husband for 46 years. In 1944, they moved to Eau Claire, where they remained for the rest of their lives. Dolly enjoyed her life as a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was very social and never missed an opportunity to be with others. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church since 1944, where she participated in many social and group functions. She loved serving others and was a volunteer at Luther Hospital for over 40 years. Bowling was another passion. Dolly was a dedicated league bowler for over 50 years, finally stopping in her 80's. She spent her 90th birthday bowling at Wagner's where she was still able to "make a strike!" Traveling was also a special joy, which included trips to Hawaii and Switzerland while she was in her 80's. Dolly loved playing cards and was a member of various card clubs throughout her life. The grandchildren could always look forward to playing a game of Yahtzee with Grandma. When not socializing, Dolly enjoyed working crossword puzzles and writing in her daily journal, an activity she started at age 14. Her writing skills and handwriting were impeccable and she remained alert and sharp to the end of her life. She was always able to easily recall people, places, and events. She lived in her own home until the last week of her life, when the onset of AML brought her to Dove Healthcare. The family wants to extend its thanks and appreciation for the excellent support and care shown by the staff of Luther Hospital and Dove Healthcare. Dolly is survived by her children Steven (Jean) Surguy of Mauston, WI, Wayne (Susan) Surguy of Eau Claire, WI, and Carol Surguy of Eau Claire, WI; her sister Patricia Pauluk of Minneapolis, MN; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and multiple nephews and nieces. Preceding Dolly in death were her parent; husband; and siblings, James and Maxine.A graveside service for family and friends will be held at 11 am on Friday, August 19, 2011, in Lakeview Cemetery, Eau Claire.Memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church, 1005 Oxford Ave., Eau Claire, WI 54703.
