Obituary

With profound sadness and endless gratitude for the time we had, the family of Gloria Jones announces her passing on Tuesday June 30th surrounded by her loved ones. As a lifelong believer in God, she was known for her quiet strength and being a devoted wife and mother. Gloria spent her 93 years building a life centered around family, faith, and time shared with her many friends.

Gloria was born to Erma and Edward Tietz on May 29th, 1933 in Eau Claire, WI. She was the middle of three children: Gene and Nancy, whom she was very close with. She spent her teenage years at local skate rinks and dance halls.

It was at one of these dance halls that she met the love of her life, Orval "Pete" Jones. He caught Gloria's attention by dancing the jitter bug. After the dance was over, Pete realized he didn't know how to find her and took the entire week off of work to track her down. He was successful and they started dating. Shortly after they were engaged and married on August 6th, 1950.

Together they welcomed three children: Cheri, Jeanne and Johnny. While Gloria held various jobs throughout her life, her favorite role was being a mother and homemaker for her children and husband. Pete and Gloria spent their time cycling and travelling throughout Wisconsin. So much so that they bought land up north on a small lake fishing their days away.

Gloria was an avid music lover and a big Packer fan. She enjoyed a great casino night with friends showing just how lucky she really was. She was the epicenter of family gatherings and adored her grandchildren. More than once, she would boast how wonderful her grandchildren were. But the truth was, they were so lucky to have her. She was a great cook and was incredibly generous, lending a helping hand when needed. She will be missed beyond measure.

She is survived by two daughters, Cheri (Terry) Tauger of Chippewa Falls, Jeanne Hutchinson of Jim Falls; one son, Johnny Jones of Jim Falls; sister, Nancy (Bill) Jones of Holcombe; 12 grandchildren, Jamey (Shannon) Hutchinson, Travis (Jessee) Hutchinson, Josh (Amy) Hutchinson, Aaron (Luisa) Hutchinson, Chelsea (Jim) Kleve, Angela Jeffrey, Marty (Kristy) Tauger, Terry Tauger Jr., Chris (Mary) Tauger, Stefani Tauger, Tammy (Travis) Iverson and Kristina Nicholson; 21 great-grandchildren; great-niece and caregiver, whom she affectionately called "her angel" Petyon KwickNess; her "adopted" children, Paula Bussman and Billy Bollom; her close friends, Judy Mueller, Gale Kahl, Debbie and Larry Smith, Paul Nelson and Mike and Mary Lou Bell, along with many beloved friends and relatives.

She was proceeded in death by her parents; brother, Gene (Barb) Tietz; son-in-law, Chuck Hutchinson and the love of her life, Pete Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral & Cremation Services, 814 1st Ave, Eau Claire, WI with Rev. Dr. Mike Deckman officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Prairie View Cemetery, Lake Hallie. Gloria liked nothing more than a big family cookout sharing stories, laughs, and good food. Please join us for just that at Gloria's residence following the burial for a dinner sharing all her best memories.
