Gloria D. Ottestad, 84, of Eau Claire, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2017, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire. Gloria was born on December 18, 1932, in Eau Claire to Alvin and Alice (Wagnild) Nelson. On December 27, 1952, Gloria married Howard Ottestad in Eau Claire. They lived in Spokane, Washington for about two years while Howard was in the Air Force. After returning to Eau Claire, Gloria worked at Fanny Farmer and later at Luther Hospital as a nurse's aide and child care giver, retiring in 1999. Gloria was a member of the Eau Claire Women of the Moose Chapter #557 and enjoyed volunteering her time in the kitchen. She also enjoyed polka dancing, BINGO, playing cards, bowling, knitting and spending time with her family and friends. She was a wonderful mom and grandma, always kind-hearted and willing to lend a hand to anyone. Gloria is survived by her two daughters, Vicki Ottestad and Julie (Mike) Johnson both of Eau Claire; two grandchildren, Kaylee and Jack Johnson; three sisters, Audrey Olson of Eau Claire, Virginia (Art) Anderson of Onalaska and Mary Call of Surprise, AZ; one brother, Steven (Jan) Barbo of Faribault, MN; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; ex-husband, Howard; nephew, Kevin Anderson; two brothers-in-law, Jack Olson and Steve Call; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 6, 2017, at Spirit Lutheran Church, 1310 Main St. in Eau Claire with Pastor Roger Benrud officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the services on Friday at the church. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire.
