Gordon R. Gilberts, 86, of Eau Claire, died Thursday, June 18, 2009, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.\r\nGordon was born in the Town of Sand Creek, Dunn County on May 10, 1923, a son of Henry and Rena (Tweed) Gilberts.\r\nHe served in the U.S. Navy until his honorable discharge on September 6, 1945. \r\nGordon married Ethel H. Anderson on June 3, 1944, in Colfax.\r\nThey lived in Colfax where they owned and operated Gilberts 4 Corners until 1958 when a tornado destroyed their property. They then moved to Chippewa Falls where Gordon worked as a salesman at Boston Clothing. He later worked for H&L Clothing in Eau Claire, Pandora Clothing in Bloomer, and then Boston's in Eau Claire until his retirement in 1986. \r\nHe was a member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Eau Claire.\r\nGordon was very compassionate with his love for animals. In his younger years he enjoyed playing baseball for the Colfax Baseball Team.\r\nGordon is survived by his wife, Ethel; his daughter, Karen (Donavan) Volrath of Amery; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two brothers, Dermont of Fort Atkinson and Norman (Norma) of Sand Creek; a sister-in-law, Greta Gilberts of Indiana; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Mervin and Alvin; his sister, Gilla Smith; brother-in-law, Fritz Smith; and sisters-in-law, June and Mary Gilberts.\r\nMemorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1120 Cedar St., Eau Claire, with Pastor Donald Wisner officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Chetek. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral and Cremation Services is serving his family.\r\n
