Gordon P. Peterson "Gordy", 87, of Eau Claire, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at Milestone Senior Living in Eau Claire, WI. Gordy's passing came at the end of a 2 year battle, that amazed his caregivers along the way, with Pancreatic Cancer. Gordon was born in Eau Claire on April 11, 1928, to the late Gilbert and Martha (Dahl) Peterson. Gordon married Marcia Skamser at First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire on October 20, 1950. Gordy was the Master of all Trades and first in line when it came to help with projects for his adult children and their homes. He would figure ways to navigate around any mechanical or wood-working hurdles thrown his way. His re-engineering (Of Anything that was Poorly Designed in the First Place/ According to Him) was his Specialty. His final products were built to withstand any test that could be thrown at them, even though this requirement was seldom needed. Gordy worked as a truck fleet maintenance mechanic for most of his adult life. The majority of this was for Ed Phillips & Sons in Eau Claire for 36 years. Gordy entered the U.S. Army in October of 1950. He served in the Korean War, of which he was very proud. He was very fond (and quick to share) his association with Dan Blocker "Hoss" of the TV show Bonanza, who was in his Company in the Army. Gordy was discharged in August 1952, at the rank of Sergeant. Gordon was an active member of The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Eau Claire, WI. Gordon is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marcia; son, Mark (Joyce) Peterson of Eau Claire, WI; two grandchildren, Ashley (AJ) Minaker of Chippewa Falls, WI and Brody (Mandy) Peterson of Virginia Beach, VA; great-grandson, Merrick Minaker of Chippewa Falls, WI; son-in-law, Tom Homes of Burnsville, MN; brother, Norman Peterson of Eau Claire, WI; and nieces, cousins, and friends. Gordon is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Shannon Homes; son, Rodney Peterson; sister, Gerda Cavannaugh; brother-in-law, Robert Cavannaugh; and sister-in-law, Bernadette Peterson. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1120 Cedar St. in Eau Claire with Pastor Michael Wollman officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire, with Military Honors conducted by VFW Post 305. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2015, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave, Eau Claire, and again one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials should be directed to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.
