Gustav "Gus" Lienhardt, 85, of Augusta, died Tuesday, January 9, 2007, at his home surrounded by his family, under the care of St. Joseph's Home Hospice. He was born in Forest Park, IL on October 22, 1921, the son of Gustav and Theresa (Haden) Lienhardt. \r\nGustav graduated in1939 from Proviso High School in Maywood, IL.\r\nGus married Marie J. Leber on December 26, 1943 in Forest Park, IL.\r\nHe served in the South Pacific with the U.S. Marines during World War II from December 1943 until his honorable discharge in January 1946.\r\nHe was a member of VFW Post #7181 in Forest Park, IL.\r\nHe worked as a journeyman machinist in Illinois from 1942 until 1958 when they moved near New Auburn, Wisconsin. There Gus and Marie owned and operated Pine Acres Resort and Bait Shop on Lower Long Lake until 1982. He also worked at the Northern Center near Chippewa Falls from 1962 until 1975. Following retirement they moved to Brainerd, MN in 1997, and returned to Augusta in 2004 to be close to their sons.\r\nHe is survived by his wife, Marie of 63 years; son, Richard (Jennifer) Lienhardt of Augusta, WI; five grandchildren, Ashley Lienhardt of Madison, Jonathan and Annie Lienhardt of Eau Claire, Lindsey Lienhardt of Green Bay, and Anissa Thompson of Augusta; nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Donald and Thomas Lienhardt; and his sister, Louise Hagenauer.\r\nGus enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, fishing and woodworking. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend who will be sadly missed by all. \r\nMemorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2007, at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Home, Eau Claire with Pastor Mary L. Jorgensen officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Island Lake Cemetery, Island Lake, WI. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Saturday until time of services at the funeral home.
