H. Clifford Hanson, 91, of 815 Summit Ave., and formerly of Colfax, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at Dove Healthcare Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born June 21, 1909 to Henrik Martinus and Sadie (Lind) Hanson near Colfax in Howard Township. \r\nClifford married Gladys Hanson on February 22, 1936 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. She passed away in 1977. He married Madalon (Gullickson) Valska at First Lutheran Church on September 5, 1981. Madalon passed away in 1998.\r\nHe lived and farmed in the Colfax area until 1981. Clifford worked for the ASCS office in Chippewa County for twenty-five years (1957 - 1982), where he measured farms, took soil samples, and sold Crop Insurance. \r\nClifford was a member of Colfax Lutheran Church, where he ushered and served on the church council for many years. In 1981, he became a member of First Lutheran Church, Eau Claire.\r\nSurvivors include his daughter, Deanna "Dee" Hanson of Eau Claire; a step-son, Robert (Gloria) Valska of Rolla, MO; two step-granddaughters, Terri (Robert) Russell of Pacific, MO and Sandy (Randy) Munton of St. Louis, MO; and four step-great-grandchildren, Jake and Devon Russell, Alex and Nick Munton; a sister, Pearl Mazzone of Milwaukee; and two brothers-in-law, Paul Barnes and Norman (Martha) Hanson, both of Eau Claire; several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and cousins.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his wives, Gladys and Madalon; three sisters, Caroline Nelson, Hazel Olson, Anna Wamboldt; and a brother Hilmer Hanson. \r\nFuneral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2001 at First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Dr. Duane C. Pedersen officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Colfax. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Friday at the church.\r\nClifford had a strong faith in God, was a loving, compassionate man, and kind to everyone. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.\r\nHis family suggests memorials to Colfax Lutheran Church, First Lutheran Church, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
