Harlan A. Holmen, 78, of Eau Claire died Sunday, February 17, 2002 at Sacred Heart Hospital. He was born October 15, 1923 near Osseo in the Town of Hale, to Melvin and Alice (Davidson) Holmen.\r\nHarlan married Joyce M. Olson on October 9, 1948 in Eau Claire. They farmed on Harlan's home farm before moving to Eau Claire in 1955 where they raised their family. During that time they became members of Plymouth United Church of Christ. He was employed at Dolly Madison Dairies, which later became Kemps, as a salesman from 1955 until his retirement. He then worked as a bus driver for Wisconsin Northern Tours for about 6 years.\r\nOn September 17, 1986 Harlan married Virginia Wincek in Eau Claire. \r\nHarlan served as union steward for the Teamster's at Dolly Madison. He was a member of Eau Claire Moose Lodge No.1408, Sons of Norway and active with the Sundowners Drum and Bugle Corps. He was an avid bowler and loved playing horseshoe.\r\nSurvivors include his special friend, Phyllis Kensmoe of Eau Claire; nine children, Charles (Jean), Paul and Peter all of Eau Claire, James of Chippewa Falls, Chris Kensmoe (Keith) of Rothschild, Helen (Karl) Ulrich of Springboro, Ohio, Marian (Jay) Fritz of Appleton, Amy Frolik (Jeff) of Wausau, Julie Holmen of Bloomington, MN, and their mother, Joyce Holmen of Eau Claire; nine grandchildren, Heidi Dubberke (Todd), Heather Holmen, Joseph Kensmoe, Kirsten Ulrich, Caleb Holmen, Jacob Holmen, Anna Ulrich, Drew Fritz and Samuel Ulrich; two great-grandchildren, Savannah Brogden and Devan Dubberke.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents.\r\nFuneral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 21, 2002 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Joel A. Hoelter officiating. Burial will be in Elk Creek Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of Hale, Trempealeau County. Friends and relatives may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
