Obituary

HAROLD O. "HUCK" HAGEN, 82, of 116 E. Tyler Ave., passed away on October 5, 1999 at Luther Hospital after a prolonged battle with Parkinson's disease and cancer. He was born in Eau Claire on June 11, 1917 to Odin and Borgina (Solem) Hagen. On August 23, 1947 he married Genevieve Kjendalen in Iola, Wisconsin. Following graduation from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1935 Harold worked briefly in Neillsville. He returned to Eau Claire where he was an electrician and supervisor at Uniroyal for 40 years until his retirement in 1979.\r\nHarold loved choral works and hymns of the church and found much joy in singing with his church choirs and the Eau Claire Male Chorus. In his younger years he sang in the Male Quartet at First Lutheran Church and served on the church council and various committees.\r\nHuck was an athlete and enjoyed all sports throughout his life. He was a city champion speed skater in his youth and a skilled golfer. He is particularly remembered as one of the city's long-time leading fastpitch softball pitchers. \r\nHarold was a member of the Sons of Norway, Nordmanns-Forbundet, the Midwest Institute of Scandinavian Culture, the W. Ager Association, and the Norwegian-American Historical Association.\r\nIt was his church and family that were of the greatest importance to Harold and he will always be remembered as a modest and caring gentleman.\r\nHe is survived by his wife of 52 years, Genevieve; a daughter, Margaret (Douglas) Daniel, Lafayette,LA; five sons, Philip (Candice), Carmel,IN, Colin (Susan), Eau Claire, Richard (Nancy), Stoughton,WI, Peter (Marcia), Minneapolis,MN, and Timothy (Deborah), Albany, IN; thirteen grandchildren, Mark Hagen and Kelly Breedlove, Nathan and Adam Daniel, Chad and Heather Hagen, Andrew, Benjamin and Eric Hagen, Matthew and Rebecca Hagen, Jacob and Kirsten Hagen; three great-grandchildren, Abigail, Ethan and Justin; cousins, nieces and nephews.\r\nPreceding him in death are his parents; brothers, Lawrence and Ralph; a sister, Marion; and a grandson, Jason Daniel.\r\nFuneral Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Duane C. Pederson officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Friday at the church.\r\nIn lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church or the charity of one's choice.
