Harold L. Knudtson, 77, of Eau Claire died June 30, 2009, in his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Eau Claire on Oct 2, 1931, a son of Lawrence and Edna (Gunderson) Knudtson. Harold served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1959 aboard the USS O'Hare #889 and completed a World Cruise aboard the USS Benham #796. He was honorably discharged on Nov 22, 1959. Harold married Janice Kay Woodford on Dec. 15, 1956, at First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. Following his US Navy career, he worked as a professional bricklayer with the Eau Claire Local #19 Labor Union until he retired on November 1, 1993. Harold was a member of the VFW Post #305 and a longstanding member of Chippewa Valley Eagles Club #2213. A sportsman, Harold's favorite pastimes were fishing, deer hunting, and golfing at Lake Hallie Golf Club where he was an associate member. Harold is survived by his three daughters, Tamara Knudtson of Eau Claire, Judith (Michael) Amato of Windermere, FLA., and Barbara (Kelly) Downing of Lake Forest, Calif; eleven grandchildren, Scott (Brooke Johnson) Brantner, Lindsey (Luc) Schultz, Mike, Danielle, Grant, Megan, Taylor Amato, and Samantha Weed, Kristopher, Kory, and Madison Downing; two sisters LaDonna Mahder and Marjorie (Thomas) Knickerbocker, both of Eau Claire, and sister-in-law, Jody Knudtson of Racine; his brother-in-law Harvey Julson of Eau Claire; many nieces, nephews, and former sons - in law, Richard Brantner of Eau Claire, Rory Voss of Colorado, and Tom King of Eau Claire. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice in January of 2009; his parents; mother-in-law, Dorothy Han, and father-in-law, Kenneth Woodford; a brother Raymond and a sister Shirley Julson; a brother-in-law, Robert Mahder; and a former son-in-law, Kevin Weed.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2009, at First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire with Pastor Scott Miller officiating. Burial with Military Rites conducted by American Legion Post #53 will be in Prairie View Cemetery in Village of Lake Hallie. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.Think of "Tubby" every time you see, the sun glistening off the top of a trout stream, or in the footprint of a deer in the fresh fallen snow.
