Obituary

Harold "Harry" L. Larson, age 85, of Eau Claire, passed away Friday evening, July 3, 2015, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Eau Claire after a short illness. Harold was born in Eau Claire, on February 21, 1930, to Leonard and Lucille (McKinster) Larson. Harold was the eldest of seven children. Harold was baptized on November 19, 1931, at the Drammen Lutheran Church, and was confirmed at the Central Lutheran church in Mondovi. The family moved to Mondovi, WI, where Harold attended public schools. He worked at neighboring farms and a canning factory. The family relocated back to Eau Claire, where Harold met the love of his life, Gloria Perry. Harold and Gloria were married on March 3, 1951, at Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, WI. They were blessed with three children, Susan, Ellen, and Gerald "Bucky". Harold worked at Peter's Meats for 27 years, and upon the plant closing, worked for what was at the time the America National Bank. The couple made a temporary move to Plymouth, MN, where both he and Gloria worked at Advanced Flex Corp. and were involved in the manufacture of circuit boards. Harold retired in 2001, at which point the couple moved back to Eau Claire. As a young family, they enjoyed camping vacations to the western portion of the United States. Harold enjoyed deer hunting with his son in the Mondovi area and was usually quite successful. Fishing was on the agenda as well as bird watching. Harold and his family were photographed while fishing below the dam in Chetek, WI, and were featured on a postcard promoting the city. Harold was quite involved with the Moose Club, achieving the rank of "Governor". Harold is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gloria; children, Susan (John) Farwell, Ellen (John) Mueller and Gerald "Bucky" Larson; grandchildren, Patti (Sam) Barby and Jamie (Chad) Mowl both of Eau Claire, WI, and John (Becky) Mueller of Blooming Prairie, MN; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Sammy and Lucas Barby, Jacob and Abby Mowl, Jaxon Wells, and Mason, Ayla, and Joey Mueller; He is further survived by siblings, Lois (Dale) Fjelstad of Montana, Lila (Jim) Benzschawel of Thorp, WI, Joseph Larson of Altoona, WI, John (Wanda) Larson of Hallie, WI, and Ruth Larson (friend, Rocky Heike) of Mondovi, WI; aunt, Doris (McKinster) Dressel Of Chippewa Falls, WI; as well as several other relatives and friends. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Orlin and his wife, Bernice Larson; and sister-in-law, Shirley Larson. Harold was a fine, upstanding, Christian man who worked hard, taught life lessons, and dearly loved his children and family. You can't ask for much more. He will be greatly missed. Be assured that we will meet again. A big thanks to Sandy Henke, family friend, who would stop by the house and give Holy Communion to Harold and Gloria every month; and to "Ed the Barber", who would stop by to cut Harold's hair; and to the ICU staff at Mayo, for your compassionate care. We can't thank you enough.
