Harold M. Smith, 92, of Eau Claire, died on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at Care Partners Assisted Living Facility in Eau Claire, surrounded by his family. He was born to Lewis and Clara (Marr) Smith on January 24, 1924, in Darlington, WI. Harold graduated from Mineral Point High School as Senior Class President with the class of 1941 in Mineral Point, WI. Harold married Mary Jane Flaten at Sacred Heart Church in Eau Claire on March 7, 1946. Harold lived his life as a humble man with a happy heart and great sense of humor. He worked at Uniroyal as a certified stationary engineer for 42 years. He loved the Wisconsin Badgers and Green Bay Packers. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed spending time fishing with his family on Potato Lake. He enjoyed blackjack and classic country music. Harold is survived by six children, Michael (Julie) Smith of Middleton, WI, Susan Voigt-Spanbauer of Round Top, TX, Mary Clare (Joe) Blanchard of Antigo, WI, Paul (Jane) Smith of Weston, WI, Timothy (Hope) Smith of Eagan, MN, and Kari (Michael Barrett) Schmitt of Eau Claire; many grand and great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Roger (Joanne) Flaten of Eau Claire; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane; his parents, Lewis and Clara; his grandson, Conor Smith; sons-in-law, Jeffrey Voigt and Ted Spanbauer; three brothers, Walter, Donald, and Thomas; and his sister, Helen Clark. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, February 22, 2016, at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 2502 11th Street in Eau Claire, with Father Tom Krieg officiating. Entombment will be at Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum in Calvary Cemetery in Eau Claire. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church. Family requests memorials be directed to St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 2502 11th St., Eau Claire, WI 54703. Harold's family extends warm appreciation to the facilities that cared for him.
