Obituary

DR. HAROLD E. SORENSEN, 81, of 3614 Tamarack Lane, Eau Claire, passed away unexpectedly Friday evening, October 24, 1997 at East Tennessee Baptist Hospital in Knoxville,TN.\r\nHarold was born June 17, 1916 in Racine to Christ and Johanna (Petersen) Sorensen. He attended Racine Horlick High School and graduated from Dana College in Blair, Nebraska. He then attended the University of Wisconsin Medical School and did his residency in orthopedic surgery at Tulane University in New Orleans. He also did an orthopedic internship in Eau Claire with Dr. Charles Ihle,Sr. He was in the U.S. Army Medical Corps for four years stationed at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital, Denver,CO. Harold was a physician practicing orthopedic surgery for many years. After a short stay in Graettinger, Iowa, he moved to Eau Claire where he was a physician with Midelfort Clinic for 34 years, retiring in 1983. \r\nOn May 30,1944, Harold married Lois Carlsen in Blair,NE. Lois died in 1980. He married Irene "Rene" B. Schulz on February 18, 1984 in Eau Claire.\r\nHe was a long time member and supporter of First Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir until his death. Harold was an avid golfer and a very accomplished woodcarver. He loved to travel and bird watch with his dear wife and best friend, Rene. \r\nHarold is survived by his wife, Irene; two sons, Richard of Minneapolis and Steven and his wife, Monica of Stillwater,MN; a daughter, Jane Poquette of Eau Claire, two step-daughters, Cristel Schulz Alvin and husband, John of Wyoming,MN, Caryn Schulz Passell and husband, Nick of Eau Claire; a brother, Ewald Sorensen of Rockford,IL; six grandchildren, Lia Grant, Petra and Vivian Passell, Emil Furcht, Thomas and Renee Poquette and their father, Tom.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Margaret Ryterske; and two brothers, Martin and Herbert.\r\nHarold was dearly loved by his family and many friends. He was a kind and godly man, and his daily support and love will be sorely missed. He was a wonderful father, husband, grandfather, brother and friend.\r\nFuneral services will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church with The Rev. Dr. Duane C. Pederson officiating. Burial will be a family service Friday morning in Lakeview Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.The family requests memorials please be directed to First Lutheran Church.
