Obituary

HARRIET V. "HATTIE" COOPER, 100, formerly of the Town of Union,died Sunday, April 6, 1997 at Dove Health Care Center. She was born on January 20, 1897 to Emil and Christine (Engstrom) Smith in Two Harbors,MN, where she grew up and attended school. Hattie married John H. Cooper in Duluth,MN on November 7, 1923. They lived in Duluth and then later moved to California before settling in Eau Claire in 1939. Following Johns death in 1967, Hattie lived a number of years in Hudson. She was a former member of Truax Congregational United Church of Christ.\r\nSurvivors include a son, John (Rita) of Eau Claire; a daughter, Helen (Ralph) Ely of Altoona; four grandsons, Greg (Patricia) Cooper of Durham,NC, Mark (Brenda) Ely of Altoona, Dan (Linda) Ely of Elk Mound, and David (Pamela) Ely of Green Bay; three granddaughters, Chris (John) Courneya of Blaine,MN, Anne (Robert) Saatela of Richfield,MN and Anita Regis of Altoona; twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers, Edwin, David, Lloyd and William: two sisters, Ann Mudge and Helen Mueller.\r\nFuneral Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Rushton of Altoona United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home.
