Obituary

Harriet Mae Welke, 94, of Cleghorn, WI, died Monday, January 13, 2014, at the Syverson Nursing Home in Eau Claire, WI. She was born in the Town of Hale, in Trempealeau County, WI, on October 21, 1919, a daughter of Oscar and Ella (Halvorson) Kensmoe. Harriet married Richard Welke on August 7, 1939. Harriet loved gardening, farming, dancing, playing cards and being with family and friends. She had the best garden for flowers, especially gladiolas and Bells of Ireland. She was one of the best cooks; making bread, desserts, canning meats, fruit and produce – enough for everyone. Harriet could be heard singing and yodeling when washing milkers, gardening, or cooking. Her favorite song that she sang was "You Are My Sunshine". Harriet loved having her nieces, nephews and all her children around her. Her singing and entertaining to them was a highlight of her day. She especially loved having her great-grandchildren visiting her and doing her nails. Harriet was a member of Zion Lutheran Cleghorn Ladies Aid and was very involved with the Church. Harriet is survived by her 5 children, Donna Oliver of Strum, Ronald (Judy) Welke of Cleghorn, Jeanne McMahan of Brackett, Ellen (Frank) Yule of Cleghorn, and Patti (Mike) Ringhand of Osseo; 11 grandchildren, Tiffany (Randy) Walker, Jason Oliver, David (Jackie) Welke, Lynn (Brett) Seubert, Kevin Welke, Kristina (Michael) Wathke, Kimberli McMahan, Jeffrey Yule, Ryan (Amanda) Yule, Zachary (Christine Luedtke) Hagen and Alex Ringhand; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Roger Kensmoe of Strum, WI; and one sister, Emelie (Irvin) Barby of Eau Claire; sisters-in-law, Phyllis (Gordon) Grohn of Eau Claire and Elaine (Melford) Kensmoe of Independence, WI; brother-in-law, Donald Ruff of Eau Claire; and many nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; parents; parents-in-law, Bill and Emma Welke; three brothers, Kenneth, Melford and Orlan Kensmoe; a sister, Beatrice Ruff; and sisters-in-law, Vivian Kensmoe and Mary Kensmoe. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2014, at Zion Lutheran Church, Hwy 93 & County Road HH, with Pastor Timothy Moe officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church. Interment will be in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Town of Pleasant Valley, Eau Claire County, WI. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral and Cremation Services is serving her family. The family would like to express a heartfelt Thank You to the EMT's, Mayo Emergency Dept. and 4th Floor Neuro Unit, Pastor Moe and especially to the Syverson Nursing Home. Thank you for taking care of our mother. Thank you to all of the grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews who helped with her care in her final days. You all are Harriet's "Sunshine"!
