Obituary

Harrison "Harry" E. Tietz, age 94, of Altoona, died peacefully at the Clairemont Nursing Home on Friday, September 19, 2014. He was born March 11, 1920, to Edwin and Pearl (Longdo) Tietz in Sand Creek, WI. Harry graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1938. He attended college in Billings, MT. Harry signed a baseball contract with Ocala of the Florida State League. He and Dolores Nelson were married on October 3, 1942, in Stillwater, MN. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force, and served in the European Theatre during WWII. After returning home from the service, he played baseball for the Eau Claire Merchants, Leif Conoco Oilers, and Lake Hallie, among others. He also coached his sons, Wayne and Roger's baseball teams. Harry worked as a supervisor at Uniroyal Tire Company for over 40 years, retiring in 1985. While in Altoona, he enjoyed swimming in his pool and the YMCA during the winter months. He enjoyed photographing family events, attending concerts and plays. He traveled extensively, visiting numerous countries. Harry is survived by two sons, Wayne Tietz and Roger (Susan) Tietz of Chippewa Falls; his daughter, Karen McGough of Woodbury, MN; three grandchildren, Jennifer and Matthew Tietz and Brian Morris; great-grandchildren, Logan and Lauren Tietz, and Shannon Morris; one great-great-grandson; and sister, Jean DeSanders of Eau Claire; along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores; his parents; brother, Willard Tietz; and sister, Joyce Conrow The Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 601 Fall Street, Eau Claire, with a visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Pastor Carlton Kangas will be officiating. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Eau Claire with Military Honors conducted by the Eau Claire American Legion Post #53.
