Harry F. Nemitz, age 89, of Eau Claire, died at home on February 8, 2012, under the care of Mayo Clinic Health Systems Homecare and Hospice. Harry was born on May 7, 1922 to Fred and Louise (Wulff) Nemitz in Warrens, WI. Harry was homeschooled and worked on the family farm until he joined the U.S. Army in 1942. He was a member of the 40th Engineer Combat Regiment in WWII. While in the service he spent time in North Africa and most of Western Europe, during which time he earned many honors. Harry was honorably discharged in 1945. After his military service Harry moved to Eau Claire and worked at Presto. He met Evelyn Miller in October 1946 and they were married on June 28, 1947, at St. Patrick's Church, Eau Claire. He later moved on to work many jobs in Eau Claire and ended his career working for the city of Eau Claire. After retiring Harry spent many hours volunteering at the St. Francis Food Pantry and at St. James the Greater Catholic Church. Harry enjoyed every available minute with his beautiful bride, Evelyn and their family. Harry's favorite pastime was woodworking, which he generously shared with all of his family and donated many of his pieces to the church fund raisers. He also enjoyed gardening and hunting along with many other outdoor activities. Harry is preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael; sisters, Jennie Jeske, Olga Kindler, Esther McCullough, Josephine Welch, Alma Hellmich and Lucille Newcombe; brothers, Fred, Ernest, Alvin and Leonard; and son-in-law, Glen Quinn. Harry is survived by loving wife of 64 years, Evelyn; children, Patricia Quinn of Winona MN, Joan (Tom) Lahy of Oregon WI and Russell (Jean) of Eau Claire; 8 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM on Monday, February 13, 2012, at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 3220 Monroe St., Eau Claire, with Father Brian Konopa officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at church. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Eau Claire with a Flag Presentation by American Legion Post #53 of Eau Claire.
