Hazel C. Stover, 97, of Eau Claire, WI died Wednesday, April 23, 2003 at her home. She was born on May 29, 1905 in Franklin County, IA the daughter of Bernhardt "Ben" and Alice (Froening) Stover.\r\nHazel graduated from Oelwein High School in Olwein, IA. She graduated from Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, IL, earned a B.S. degree in Public Health Nursing from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN, and enjoyed post-graduate study at Columbia University in New York, NY. She practiced nursing in various positions and locations in Tennessee, Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin. She came to Eau Claire as Supervising Nurse at the Eau Claire City County Health Department in 1947. Her last nursing position was at Luther Hospital, where she initiated and implemented Employee Health Service. At the time of her retirement she was awarded an honorary lifetime membership in the Wisconsin Nurses Association.\r\nShe was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ; the American Association of University Women and a 50 year member of Eau Claire Chapter #126 Order of The Eastern Star. Hazel was involved in social and civic activities during her working and retirement years. In recent years, due to the disabilities of old age, she enjoyed a quiet life during which friends and family played dominant roles. \r\nSurvivors include her nieces and nephews including Barbara Matt, Wayne Jipson, David, Roger, Tom and Lee Stover, James Beneke, LaVonne Pleggenkuhle, Sybil Sporer, Ann Dieleman and Jane Zuidema. Hazel maintained a close relationship with all of them and their families. An even closer relationship was maintained with individual friends and families in Eau Claire. She was ever grateful for these ties.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Clara Jipson, Marjorie Sporer and Alice Beneke; and three brothers, Roland, Donald and Walter Stover.\r\nMemorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2003 in the chapel at First Congregational United Church of Christ with Jill Christopherson officiating. Graveside Committal services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12th at Sheffield Cemetery, Sheffield, IA with Pastor David Schwechel officiating. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral and Cremation Services, Eau Claire is assisting the family.\r\nIn lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be directed to First Congregational United Church of Christ, 310 Broadway Street, Eau Claire, WI 54703; or to the Eau Claire Branch of the American Association of University Women, Attn: Treasurer, 3502 Damon Street, Eau Claire, WI 54701.
