HECTOR T. "HEC" MAYHEU, 86, of 2736 Irene Drive, died Friday, June 12, 1998 at his home. He was born October 3, 1911, in Eau Claire, to Hector and Letitia (LeMay) Mayheu. He grew up in Eau Claire where he graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School. He was a graduate of the American Institute of Banking and Graduate School of Banking at University of Wisconsin-Madison.\r\nHector married Catherine Pattison in Durand, on April 14, 1941.\r\nA veteran of World War II, he served in the African and Italian Campaign, making several invasions on the Italian coast including the "Anzio" invasion.\r\nHis business career started in 1929 with the Union Savings Bank in Eau Claire, at the start of the Depression. In 1931 he joined the Union National Bank of Eau Claire, the only bank that survived the bank crash of 1931 out of the then six banks in Eau Claire. Hector was with Union National which later became First Wisconsin and later Firstar National Bank, until his retirement in 1976. He was elected to the Board of Directors in 1972, Senior Vice President in 1973, and Executive Vice President with service in Audit, General Accounting, Cashier Division, Corporate, Real Estate, and Installment loan Divisions. He was a charter member and past president of the Wisconsin Installment Bankers Assoc., and was active in consumer activities in the State of Wisconsin. He was a past member of the American Bankers Assoc. Advisory Council on installment credit for the Ninth Federal Reserve Bank District.\r\nHector was active in many civic affairs representing United Fund, Red Cross, Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Elks Club, Elks Scholarship, Hillcrest Country Club, YMCA, Boy Scouts, Sacred Heart Hospital, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Eau Claire Industrial Development Corporation and the Eau Claire Airport Commission.\r\nAs a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Hector was active in many church and school affairs representing Knights of Columbus, First Friday Club, Regis High School, Central Council PTA, Regis Athletic Assoc., and Ecumenical Religious Center. He was Past Grand Knight of John F. Kennedy Council #1257, Knights of Columbus and a Past District Deputy of Wisconsin State Council, Knights of Columbus.\r\nSurvivors include his wife of 57 years, Catherine; three children, Stephen (Mary) of Algoma, Susan (Gary) Hamblin of Madison and John (Jean) of Snellville, GA; seven grandchildren, Eric (Heather) and Paul Mayheu, Erica, Mark and Bridget Hamblin, Timothy and Matthew Mayheu; and a great grandson, Conner Mayheu.\r\nHe was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin; and three sisters, Marie Derouin, Jeannette Lynch and Sister M. Janet, O.S.B.\r\nMass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Church with Father Eugene Klink officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery where VFW Post #305 will conduct military graveside rights. Friends may call from 4to8 p.m. Monday at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.
