HELEN A. GARLIE, 92, formerly of 1621 Lloyd Ave., died Tuesday, November 24, 1998 at the Syverson Lutheran Home. She was born on June 6, 1906 in Rock Falls to Ole and Carrie (Sneen) Garlie.\r\nHelen grew up in Eau Claire and attended Eau Claire Sr. High School where she graduated with the class of 1924. She received her degree in education from Eau Claire Teachers College and taught school for 65 years. The first two years at Strum area schools and the remaining 63 years at the Eau Claire Junior High School until her retirement. Helen enjoyed knitting throughout her life and taught a night school class at the Junior High where she formed a knitting club.\r\nShe was a Charter member of Grace Lutheran Church, and was confirmed with the first confirmation class at Grace, she later taught Sunday School and confirmation classes, and was active in Bible study classes and ladies church circles.\r\nHelen was a member of the Eau Claire Retired Educators Assoc.\r\nShe is survived by, a sister, Marion Klawiter; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Garlie and Gerry Garlie; a brother-in-law, Elmer Heuer all of Eau Claire; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nHelen was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Lloyd, Harley, Carl and Harold; five sisters, Stella Opsata, Sylvia Duncan, Eileen "Peggy" Heuer, Edna Mitchell and Esther Jones.\r\nFuneral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Howard Fehr officiating. Burial will be in Lutheran Church Cemetery.Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home andan hour prior to services Saturday at the church.\r\nFamily requests memorials be directed to Grace Lutheran Church or charity of the donor's choice
