Helen E. Steinmetz, 83, of Eau Claire died Friday, April 14, 2017, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Eau Claire. She was born in the family home in Canton, WI, in Buffalo County on April 3, 1934, a daughter of Joseph and Rose (Berger) Ableidinger. Helen graduated from Sacred Heart High School in the Township of Lima near Durand, WI. Helen married Stephen C. Steinmetz on August 13, 1957, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Durand. Helen was a great baker and homemaker. She enjoyed spending time at the cottage, and the many friends who visited over the years. Helen retired from Sacred Heart Hospital. She was a member of the Moose Lodge 1408, Catholic Order of Foresters, Homemakers of Eau Claire County-UW Extension and the Lay Associates of the Franciscan Sisters of Springfield, IL Helen is survived by her husband, Stephen; children, Denise (Dan) Kurtz, Greg (Pam) Steinmetz, Lori (John) Moldenhauer, Terry Steinmetz, Karen (Joe) Kunya, Jolene (Kelly) Fawcett and Kurt (Angela) Steinmetz; grandchildren, Molly Kurtz, Thomas (Jacklyn) Moldenhauer, Lindsey (Jerad) Polden, Jacob Steinmetz, Jenna Steinmetz, Dr. Andrew Kunya, Jordon Kunya, Alyssa Fawcett, Adam Fawcett and Tyler Steinmetz; great-grandchildren, Conner Moldenhauer, Easton Darrow and Juniper Polden; and a sister, Frances (James) Otto. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, William Ableidinger, Ann Falch and Marie Wayne) Harringan. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2017, at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 2502 11th Street in Eau Claire, with Father Tom Krieg officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at the WEST CHAPEL location of Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 1405 N. Clairemont Ave. in Eau Claire, with a Public Prayer Vigil at 6:30 p.m. A visitation will also take place one hour prior to the Mass, Thursday at the church. Inurnment will be in the Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum in Calvary Cemetery, Eau Claire.
