Obituary

Helen Rentenbach Zurcher passed away peacefully on November 21, 2016, at the Felician Village nursing home in Manitowoc, WI, just three weeks before her 99th birthday. She was a native of Hancock, MI, in the Upper Peninsula where she graduated from Hancock High School. She attended the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN, and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Northern Michigan University, College of Education. She married Kenneth P. Zurcher in Hancock on April 27, 1942, and together they relocated to Eau Claire, WI, where they settled after the end of World War II to pursue their dreams and raise their family. Helen is survived by her five children: Thomas, of Monterrey, Mexico; Patricia (Gregory) Kaiser of Edgar, WI; David of Eau Claire, WI; Robert (Pat) Zurcher of Foster City, CA; Mary Ann (Michael) Teshima of Manitowoc, WI. Helen is also survived by nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, each of whom she loved dearly and who loved her in return. Helen is preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Margaret Rentenbach, her husband Kenneth, her brother Thomas Rentenbach, and her sisters Mary Vertin and Ann Sykes. Helen was a faithful parishioner of Sacred Heart-St. Patrick's Parish in Eau Claire and a devout member of the Roman Catholic Church. She touched the lives of many people as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Sacred Heart Hospital, and Birthright in Eau Claire. Her life was devoted to being a loving wife and caring mother and she could always be counted on for wise and helpful guidance. She loved to play bridge with her husband and their many friends and she was quick with a smile and good humor. Her faith was the source of her unending positive outlook on life. She leaves us with fond memories of her selfless compassion for others and she will be deeply missed. The Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2016, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 322 Fulton St., Eau Claire, with her son, Rev. Thomas Zurcher, CSC, presiding and Father George Thayilkuzhithottu concelebrating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn is serving her family. In lieu of flowers, donations to Sacred Heart-St. Patrick's Parish will be appreciated.
