Helmer B. Olson, 91, of Eau Claire died Wednesday, October 3, 2007, at Luther Hospital.He was born in Eleva on June 19, 1916, the son of Oscar and Hilda (Johnson) Olson.\r\nHelmer married Geraldine L. "Gerry" Huse on November 1, 1942, in Eleva, WI. They would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this year.\r\nHe owned and operated Olson Disposal Service of Eau Claire for many years until his retirement in 1977.\r\nHe was a member of First Lutheran Church.\r\nHelmer had a special creative skill and the ability to understand how things worked. He enjoyed many hours working on his red antique International truck, and the building of many parts for and constructing his model steam engine and the many accessories it powered. He took great pride in going down to his home shop to design the build parts needed for replacement and repairs.\r\nHe was proud of his Norwegian heritage having been baptized and confirmed in Norwegian at Eleva Lutheran Church. Helmer was an avid Cavaliers fan, Gerry and he would always go to the ballpark early so they could get there favorite seats at the stadium.\r\nHe loved to tease and joke with people, and always looked forward to family gatherings. Helmer always had a smile on his face right to the very end.\r\nHelmer is survived by his wife, Geraldine; a daughter, Diane (Dennis) Roberts; son-in-law, Wayne Geissler; four grandchildren, Rick (Jillyn) Geissler, Joel (Janine) Roberts and Angela Griffin all of Eau Claire, and Jodie (Mark) Cronin of Neenah; ten great grandchildren, Nikki (Ryan) Balts, Sarah (Ben) Hundt, Andrew Geissler, Jessica Sharlow, Kalysta Griffin, Samantha, Emily and Haley Cronin, Alex and Anna Geissler, and soon to be born, Seth Roberts; one great-great grandson, Ezekial Belden; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives. \r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Donna Geissler; grandson-in-law, Darren Griffin; and his sister, Myrtle Bandoli.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 8, 2007, at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Amy Odgren officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.\r\nFamily requests memorials be directed to First Lutheran Church, 1005 Oxford Ave., Eau Claire, WI 54703.\r\nOn Eagle's Wings\r\nAnd He will raise you up on eagle's wings,Bear you on the breath of dawn,Make you to shine like the sun,And hold you in the palm of his hand.
