Helmer T. Olson, 87, of Eau Claire died Sunday, February 20, 2011, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire. He was born in the town of Brunswick on August 1, 1923, the son of Albert and Sophie (Swanson) Olson.\r\nHelmer married Esther G. Wold on June of 1972, in Eau Claire.\r\nHelmer was a lifetime dairy farmer and a good man. He was an avid book reader and enjoyed spending time in the woods cutting firewood. He was also a lifetime Chicago Cubs fan.\r\nHelmer was a member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and Zor Shriners. He was raised to the Degree of Master Mason on January 24, 1967, in Eau Claire Masonic Lodge #112.\r\nHelmer is survived by two step-sons, Robert Stanton of rural Eau Claire and David (Bonnie) Stanton of Rock Falls; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; a brother, Martin Olson of Eagle River; and several nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his wife, Esther in 2007; a step-son, Daryl Stanton; parents; four brothers, Gustave, Alvin, Harold, and John Olson; and four sisters, Irma Benson, Gerda Gullickson, Esther and Florence Olson.\r\nMemorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1120 Cedar Street in Eau Claire, with Pastor Chuck Gavin officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Masonic rites will be held at 10:15 a.m. at the church.
