HENRY " CLARE" BRADFORD, 84, of 2812 Preston Road, died Tuesday, January 6, 1998 at Dove Health Care Center. He was born August 29, 1913 in Dunn County to Melvin and Ida (Myers) Bradford. He graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School with the class of 1934. Clare married Neva Silcox in 1938 in Esterville,IA.He married Margaret Bradford in 1971 in Eau Claire. He attended Eau Claire Normal School and then continued his education at UW Stout. In 1940, Clare taught electricity shop class at Eau Claire Senior High. When W.W.II began, he worked in various capacities, as an electronics repairman in the physics department at Uniroyal, for the U of M teaching U.S. Naval personnel for their Electricians Mate rating, and with Western Electric in their radar department. Clare began working at the Chippewa Valley Technical College in 1946, as their first electronics instructor, retiring from there in 1978, after 32 years. \r\nHe was a member of Eau Claire Lodge #112 F&AM and Scottish Rite Valley of Eau Claire, Exchange Club of Eau Claire, Optimist Club, Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ, and Edison Church of Fort Myers,FL. As scout master for Troop 84 at Sherman School for 32 years he was a member of the Order of the Arrow, and a recipient of Scoutings highest award, the Silver Beaver.\r\nAn electronics buff, Clare's hobbies included amateur radio, starting in 1928 his call letters were W9SLT, and he had the first TV set in Eau Claire. \r\nHe is survived by a son, Neil (Yvonne) Bradford of Eau Claire; a daughter, Rose Palmer of Almena and their mother, Neva Silcox of Eau Claire; two step-sons, Lane and Gary Bradford of Miami,FL; two brothers, LaVerne (Alice) Bradford, Eau Claire and H. Lloyd (Marlys) Bradford of Branson,MO; a sister, Vivian Hess of Eau Claire; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nClare was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; his parents; and a brother, Marvin.\r\nHis family and friends, will miss him dearly.\r\nFuneral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, at Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ with Pastor Chris W. Myers officiating. Friends may call 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home an a half hour prior to services Friday at the church. There will be a 7 p.m. Masonic Service, Thursday at the funeral home.
