Obituary

Hensel J. Tomter, 96, of Eau Claire died Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at Dove Healthcare. He was born on August 8, 1907 in Trempealeau County near Pigeon Falls, Wisconsin, the son of Ole and Hilda (Skoyen) Tomter. \r\nHensel married Lenieda Adeline Johnson on January 27, 1934 in Pigeon Falls.\r\nDuring the Depression he worked on the Trempealeau Dam for the WPA. He was a crane operator for Sterling Pulp and Paper for 33 years until his retirement in 1974.\r\nHensel played his accordion for barn dances, weddings and other events in the Trempealeau area for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family. He was an excellent cook and a green thumb gardener.\r\nSurvivors include his two sons, Harvey (Rose) Tomter and Larry (Linda) Tomter, both of Eau Claire; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Floyd (Doris) Tomter of Dubuque, IA; three sisters-in-law, Ella Tomter of Black River Falls, Loris Johnson of Osseo, and Corrine Tomter of Aurora, IL; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.\r\nHensel was preceded in death by his wife, Lenieda in 1996; his parents; three brothers, Lester, Lawrence and Richard Tomter; and his sister, Sylvia Engevold.\r\nFuneral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 2004 at First Lutheran Church, Eau Claire with the Rev. Dr. Duane C. Pederson officiating. Burial will be at Pigeon Creek Lutheran Cemetery in Pigeon Falls. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
