Herbert H. Zunker, 98, of Eau Claire, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Sacred Heart Hospital. He was born on August 27, 1906 in Wonewoc, Wisconsin to Franz and Marie (Raese) Zunker. He attended Spooner High School graduating in 1925. As a young man Herbert and his brother had a dance band and performed around the Spooner area.\r\nHe attended Hunt's Business College; he also attended Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. \r\nHerbert married Myrtle Rose Borgen on April 21, 1934 in Dallas, Wisconsin. \r\n He was a conductor for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad for over 40 years, until his retirement in 1971.\r\nHerbert was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, where he served as church treasurer for seventeen years, was on the building committee, and a member of the Senior Club. He was also a member of the D&S Club. He was a member of the Railroad Union, and Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen.\r\nSurvivors include his son, Herbert (Sharon) Zunker of Shoreview, Minn; daughter, Marilyn (Ken) Stetzer of Eau Claire; three grandchildren, Angela (Doug) Howe of Chanhassen, Minn, Bradley (Tami) Zunker of Woodbury, Minn, and Mackenzie Stetzer of Seattle, Wash; two great-grandchildren, Andrew Clint Howe and Jon Bradley Howe; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Myrtle; a son, Harold Eugene Zunker; brother, Rev. George Zunker; and a sister, Severa Block.\r\nMemorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2005, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Joel A. Hoelter officiating. Burial will be in Dallas Cemetery, Dallas, Wis. Visitation will be an hour prior to services Monday at the church.
