Hilda A. Mai, 88, formerly of 302 Chestnut St. and 2904 Trinity St., died Friday, December 24, 1999 at the Oakwood Villa, after a courageous battle with cancer.\r\nShe was born April 14, 1911 in Chimney Rock, Trempeleau County, to Alfred and Hanna (Knudtson) Nyseth. Hilda married Ervin H. Mai on June 14, 1931 in Eau Claire.\r\nHilda was a member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, where her late husband Ervin, was a custodian for many years.\r\nSurvivors include a daughter, Betty (Victor) Grosvold of Eau Claire; three grandsons, Steve (Teresa) DeMoe, Mark(Sharon) DeMoe, and Craig (Cindy) DeMoe; one granddaughter, Vicki (Jim) Mendoza; ten great-grandchildren, Simone, Corisa, Ian, Adriane, Serina, Ryan, Sara, and Ashley DeMoe, Erin and Jamie Mendoza; four step-grandchildren; fifteen step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ollie Rehberg of Eau Claire and Lila Austin of Strum; many nieces and nephews. \r\nShe was preceded in death by her husband Ervin in 1987; son Jerry in 1994; four brothers, Murphy, Joe, Marvin, and Oscar Nyseth; two sisters, Grace Swanson and Hazel Kappus.\r\nFuneral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd, with Pastor John E. Hosmann officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.\r\nFriends may call 4:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one-half hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.\r\nHilda loved her family and will be remembered for her great sense of humor, her cooking, playing cards (especially Old Maid) with the grandchildren and making her famous open-faced cheese and potato chip sandwiches for them. She received His special gift this Christmas when the Lord called her home to be with her husband and son.
