Hjordis Fjelstad, 93, of Eau Claire, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000 at Fall Creek Valley Nursing Home in Fall Creek. She was born May 31, 1907 to Jacob O. and Hannah (Pederson) Engevold in Vardal, Norway. Hjordis married Melvin Fjelstad on December 9, 1925 in Osseo, Wisconsin.\r\nShe worked as a tire builder at Uniroyal until retirement. She was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church and enjoyed entertaining and gardening. Hjordis was a loving mother and she especially loved and was loved by her grandchildren.\r\nSurvivors include two sisters, Irene Cleasby of Altoona, and Alice Sires of Rice Lake; a son-in-law, Milo Hammer of Eau Claire; four grandchildren, Jackie (Doug) Dean of Stillwater, MN, James Forcier of San Diego,CA, Teresa (Jeff) Carlson and Michael Forcier both of Eau Claire; five great grandchildren, Ian Moen of Superior, Kurt Zich, Brenden Smith, Ashley Carlson, and Gunner Forcier all of Eau Claire; a great-great granddaughter, Sarah Leshock; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Melvin in 1971; her daughter, Delores Hammer; ten brothers and sisters, Jorun Nelson, Ole Engevold, Ruth Nordstrum, Beatrice Hamilton, Henry Engevold, Maynard Engevold, Jarle Engevold, Millie Rossow, Marvin Engevold, and Margore Minter.; granddaughter, Michelle Forcier; and son-in-law, Raymond Forcier.\r\nMemorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church Chapel, with Pastor Rolf Nestingen officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Gardens Cemetery in the Town of Washington. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Saturday at the church.\r\nFamily requests memorials be directed to Grace Lutheran Church.
