HOWARD W. JANKE, 78, of 523 Putnam Drive, Eau Claire died Monday, June 12, 2000 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. He was born on September 4, 1921 in Eau Claire, to Carl and Ella (Miklos) Janke. Howard married Jane A. Rotolo on January 2, 1944 in Bradenton, FL. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on February 17, 1942, and served in the European Theatre. Following his honorable discharge on January 6, 1946, Howard and Jane lived in Florida until moving to Eau Claire in 1947.\r\nHoward was a building contractor in partnership at J&H construction for seventeen years with Norbert Hagmann until retiring in 1987. He continued to enjoy lending his expertise helping family and friends with special building projects. Howard's projects included the Paul Bunyan Camp in Carson Park where he continued to help out after retirement. \r\nSurvivors include his wife, Jane; three sons, Howard "Butch" (Mary), Blaine, MN, William "Bill" (Maurine), Georgetown, TX , and David, Baldwin, WI; four grandchildren, Jason (Santina) Janke, Hammond,WI, Jamie (James) Letourneau, Stillwater,MN, Gregory and Jeffrey Janke both of Georgetown, TX; two great-grandchildren, David and Colton Janke; two sisters, Lorraine Carrol and Marion (Mel) Wesenberg both of Eau Claire; three brothers, Vernon (Gloria), DeKalb, IL, Gerald (Beverly) of New Auburn, and Robert (Sue) of Eau Claire; and many nieces and nephews. \r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents.\r\nFuneral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Gary L. Burnett officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Gardens Cemetery in the town of Washington. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
