Obituary

HUMPHREY THOMAS GILBERT SR., 80, of 3330 N. Town Hall Rd., died Monday, June 1, 1998 at home surrounded by his family. He was born on May 5, 1918 in Eau Claire to Frank and Elizabeth (Orth) Gilbert. Humphrey married Lois E. Willett at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eau Claire, on February 14, 1940. \r\nHe opened the Gun Exchange in 1952 which he continued to own and operate until his death. Humphrey worked at Uniroyal for many years until his retirement and also had served as Police Chief for Elk Mound and had been a police officer in the town of Hallie.\r\nSurvivors include his wife Lois; three sons, Humphrey T. Gilbert Jr. (Liz), of Elk Mound, Brad (Mary) of Oconto and Scot (Katherine) of Eau Claire; two daughters, Susan O'Neill (Wallace) and Mary Liz Gilbert of both Eau Claire; twelve grandchildren, Humphrey T. Gilbert III, Keri Lynn Durban (Bo), George, Ben and Ed Gilbert, Rory and Heather O'Neill, Sarah Mai Gilbert, Eric Gilbert, Elijah Anderson, Chantice Walter (Christopher) and Besheka Grace; seven great-grandchildren; a sister Betty Andrus (Orville) of Eau Claire; a brother, John (Minia) of Menomonie; two special sons, Mike McClure (Theresa) of Eau Claire and Donald Ottum of Mondovi; and his faithful dog, Kitty.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents.\r\nHe will be greatly missed and always remembered for his deep wisdom and unconditional love.\r\nFuneral Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at First Congregational United Church of Christ at 310 Broadway St.,Eau Claire with Pastor Lee A. MacInnes officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home and an hour prior to services on Friday at the church. \r\nPlease note there is a change, as the funeral service was previously planned to be at the funeral home.
