Obituary

Inez Lorraine (King) Ravell

July 23, 1928 - November 9, 2025

Inez, age 97, was born in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, the second of five daughters born to the late William and Karine Gurine (Walstead) King of Boscobel, Wisconsin.

She grew up on a dairy farm and attended Boscobel High School, graduating in 1947. During her junior and senior years and for a year-and-a-half following graduation, she worked as a nurse assistant at Boscobel Memorial Hospital. In 1951, she received a certificate of graduate nurse from Finley Hospital School of Nursing, Dubuque, Iowa. She then successfully completed the requirements to become a registered nurse in the state of Iowa. For two years she worked as staff nurse at the State University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa.

She married John K. Teefy in 1952 and moved to Dallas, Texas in 1953. Following his death in November 1970, she established and maintained to date, a nursing scholarship with the State University in Iowa, College of Nursing (University of Iowa). On December 17, 1976, she married William B. Ravell.

Inez continued her nursing education and received the degree of Bachelor of Science with honors from Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas in 1962. In 1964 she received the degree of Master of Nursing Education with honors from the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society of Nursing, Phi Delta Gamma, The National Graduate Fraternal Organization and Alpha Chi. She held a lifetime membership in the National Alumnae Association of Texas Woman's University. For 24 years she taught pediatric nursing at Texas Woman's University at the Dallas Campus. She retired as associate professor Emerita in 1988.

During her tenure she was a contributing author for three books. She also authored several published articles and papers. Inez contributed to the health care of young children by lecturing internationally and participating in conferences and seminars. She also traveled with Professional Seminar Consultants and People-to-People International to China, Japan, the Soviet Union, Scandinavia, Europe, Thailand, and Taiwan. She studied the health care system of Great Britian as a summer student at the University of London.

Her life has been dedicated to the health and welfare of all people, especially young children, and their families. Inez was an excellent square dancer and often remarked that she would rather dance than eat!

Inez is survived by her sister, Anita Hubanks of Madison, Wisconsin. She was an aunt to many nieces and nephews; Rockland Burr, Debra Burr-Market, Mark, Bruce and Greg Hubanks, Barbara (Hubanks) Bearden, Rodney and Russell Turk, Kathy (Turk) Smith, Jody (Sipple) Wick, Jenny (Sipple) Zutz, as well as many grand nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husbands, John "Jack" Teefy and Bill Ravell; her parents; and her sisters and their spouses, Vivian (Leonard) Burr, Jeanette (Howard) Turk, Loretta (Bob) Sipple, brother-in-law Bud Hubanks, and nephew Jeff Sipple.

Her ashes will be interred in Forest Hill Cemetery, Eau Claire, Wisconsin at a service on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 11:00 AM. All family are welcome and Inez requested everyone join us for lunch immediately after the service to share stories.

There in the twilight cold and grey,
Lifeless, but beautiful, (s)he lay.
And from the sky, serene and far.
A voice fell, like a falling star, Excelsior!
