Irene A. Diemert, 85, of Eau Claire, and formerly of Valley City, North Dakota, died Monday, June 9, 2008, at Syverson Lutheran Home in Eau Claire. All who knew her will miss her sparkling smile, her caring spirit and her welcoming hospitality.\r\nShe was born in Barnes County near Valley City, ND, on April 13, 1923, the daughter of Lewis and Gina Elizabeth (Borg) Kjelland. Following graduation from Valley City High School, she attended business school in Minneapolis, MN.\r\nIrene married Joseph J. Diemert on June 20, 1946, in Sanborn, N.D.\r\nIrene and Joseph lived in Edgeley and LaMoure N.D. where she was active in community service. She was a member of Holy Rosary and St. Ann's Circle and received the volunteer of the year award at the Colonial Manor in LaMoure, ND. She also served on the LaMoure County Social Services Board for several years.\r\nShe worked as a medical secretary prior to raising her family.\r\nIrene is survived by her husband, Joseph; six children, Carol (Steve Rider) Diemert of St. Paul, MN, Susan (Michael) Moch of Eau Claire, Tim (Myrna) Diemert of Friendship, WI, Thomas (Mary Linder) Diemert of Lake Shore, MN, Paul (Laurie) Diemert of Eau Claire, and Todd Diemert of Deerwood, MN; eight grandchildren, Terri (Rob) Fuchsteiner, Erika (Jathan) Manley, Kevin (Deb) Diemert, Wendy (Chad) Lorentz, Nate (Jessica) Moch, Katie (Tyler) Rogers, Keith and Collin Diemert; four great grandchildren, Brie, Cameron, Jack Joseph and Hailey; and many special nieces, nephews and sister-in-laws.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents; and seven brothers, Lloyd, Chester, Erling, Walter, Sam, Roy and George Kjelland.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 13, 2008, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, Eau Claire with Deacon Larry J. Agema officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home. A graveside memorial service will also be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25th at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Sanborn, ND.\r\nFamily requests memorials be directed to the St. Rose Care Center or Holy Rosary Church in LaMoure, ND 58401 or the Grace Lutheran Foundation, 822 Porter Ave., Eau Claire, WI 54701.
